We explain below everything you need to know about the conclusion of Avatar: The Way of Water in theaters; check out.

At the end of Avatar: The Way of Water, Quaritch (Stephen Lang’s character) and his squadron of GDR fighters invade the beaches of Clan Metkayina. At first, the leaders are hesitant to get involved in the war, but when the RDA murder a Tulkun – considered the spiritual brother of the Navi – the people set out in search of revenge.

Jake and Neytiri’s children thereafter try to find the missing Tulkun, who had been hit by a locator dart and left for dead. The clan’s heirs manage to free the character, but at that moment, they end up captured by Quaritch, thrown into a large fishing net, and tied to the stern of the boat. The Tulkun then sees Lo’ak underwater. Enraged, the “whale” offers GDR fighters the “Free Willy treatment”: the creature emerges from the water and lands on top of the boat, crushing most of the occupants.

Jake and Neytiri’s children manage to escape, and then the protagonist faces Quatrich in an electrifying fight. Meanwhile, Neteyam is shot, and dies trying to help Lo’ak break free. When Neytiri mourns her son’s death, Quaritch offers Jake the same option: his life for his daughter’s survival.

Jake then manages to find Tuk, but Quaritch holds a knife to Kiri’s neck. Neytiri, as retribution, kills all GDR soldiers. Zoe Saldana’s character also marks Spider’s chest with her blade. Eventually, Jake manages to defeat Quaritch, apparently killing the villain underwater. However, the protagonist ends up trapped in the underwater environment, and if it weren’t for Lo’ak’s help, he would have died there.

Kiri then uses her powers to summon glowing underwater fireflies, which find Neytiri and Tuk and save the characters.

This is where the last twist of the film takes place: Quaritch, in fact, did not die! Spider finds the villain convulsing and decides to save him. The character thereafter flies alone, presumably back to the GDR base. “All energy is borrowed”, as the mythology of Avatar says. The film ends with Neteyam’s funeral and the golden tentacles of the restinga embracing him in a friendly way.

Jake and Neytiri are then welcomed as members of the Metkayina clan. At that moment, the camera zooms in on Jake’s face and the movie ends – just like the first Avatar.
