James Cameron’s upcoming Avatar sequel drops its first still, introducing audiences to Jake Sully and Neytiri’s adopted son, Spider.
The first-look image was revealed by Empire when the film’s producer Jon Landau sat down and discussed the plot of the film. Ladau discusses the relationship Spider has with his parents sharing, “Jake took him in but Neytiri always saw him as one of the people who destroyed her home and killed her father. So you have all these dynamics playing out.”
In a new image shared with Empire, you can see a dreadlocked Spider emerging from the waters with a diving mask on.
“Say hello to #Avatar2’s new human character, Spider – a child adopted by Na’vi parents Jake and Neytiri,” Empire tweeted with the image.
The plot centers around Jake, played by Sam Worthington, and Neytiri, played by Zoe Saldana, as they have their own family, including children Na’vi Neteyam, Lo’al, and Tuktirey. They also have a human son, Miles Socorro, also known as Spider, played by Jack Champion. Born at the Pandora military base, Spider was too young to return to Earth and was later adopted and raised by Jake and Neytiri.
