The idea for ​​the film ‘Gadar Ek Prem Katha first came to its writer Shaktimaan. It was Shaktimaan who narrated the love story of Buta Singh to Anil Sharma. Anil Sharma was looking for such a story in those days, which has patriotism but it is not a film like Manoj Kumar. Due to the Kargil war, hatred was spreading among the people against Pakistan in the country, and in such a situation, Anil Sharma got this story.

Sunny Deol says, “Nitin Kenny, Anil Sharma, Kamal Mukut and Shaktimaan came to me with this film. I liked the story and I immediately said yes to it. But in those days I had so many films that it was becoming very difficult to find time for this film, but then somehow this film was made and it turned out to be a very good film.

The music of the film ‘Gadar Ek Prem Katha’ also became a huge hit during its time. Anand Bakshi wrote its songs with a heart and equally the music of Jhoom was composed by the Sangeetkar duo Uttam-Jagdish Wale Uttam Singh. Prior to this film, Uttam Singh had composed the music of Yash Chopra’s film ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’ and his music had sold about 1.2 million units (cassettes and CDs) then.
