Kaali Khuhi
Director – Terrie Samundra
Cast – Shabana Azmi, Leela Samson, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Satyadeep Mishra, Riva Arora
Rating: 3.5 stars (out of 5)
Kaali Khuhi is a horror suspense thriller, and the dark atmosphere with smoky elements brings the scenic view of horror into the film. Kaali Khuhi reviews the concept of women who are very guilty as men of the perpetuation of female infanticide. The film has only one major male character, Darshan (Satyadeep Mishra), and he appears to possess no power throughout his life. All he can do is insist that he will never leave his mother’s house again, even when his wife and daughter are dead despite the idea of staying in the cursed village.
Terrie Samundra’s first feature film is seen largely through the wide and increasingly terrified eyes of 10-year-old Shivangi (Riva Arora). Forced to return to his father’s ancestral village in Punjab after his grandmother (Leela Samson) fell ill, Shivangi meets a girl his age (Rose Rathod) and another out of this world girl (Hetvi Bhanushali).
Shabana Azmi nailed her performance on Kaali Khuhi as she played the role in the horror movie Makdee. The panoramic view that the horror instinct creates in the film is quite incredible. Shabana Azmi plays the role of Satya maasi and portrays a great performance. Sanjeeda Shaikh plays the character of Priya, who is the mother of Shivangi (Riva Arora).
The focus of the film is instead of three generations of women and other elderly women, one of whom appears in the most sinister scenes of the film doing what she wants. Shivangi’s daadi and Satya maasi represent the past, Priya the present, and the pre-adolescent girl the future. The movie starred Shabana Azmi, Satyadeep Misra, Sanjeeda Sheikh, and the child actor Riva Arora.
