Amitabh Bachchan, who broke all the parameters of Indian cinema by saying “Hum jahan khade hote hai line wahise shuru hoti hai”, turned 80 today. His contribution to Indian cinema is unparalleled. It is amazing to see the ring that this name has got not only in India but also all over the world.
At that time, Bachchan’s fans used to throng to meet him on the sets of his films. On the sets of ‘Pukar’ in Goa, Randhir Kapoor saw the crowd gathered for Amitabh Bachchan and gave him a name, ‘Supremo’. A magazine editor Pammi Bakshi liked the name given to Bachchan and decided to publish a comic book with this name.
Big B also liked the concept and Gulzar was roped in as the writer for this comic book. Moreover, Pratap Malik, the popular illustrator of Amar Chitra Katha, was entrusted with the illustrations and the comic was published in 1980 under the name ‘Adventure of Amitabh’. In this comic book, Amitabh’s avatar was very different, he was given a superhero-like look with red clothes and big goggles on his eyes.
This comic got good response but later this comic stopped being published. The character was created to match Bachchan’s ‘angry young man’ image.
