Marvel and DC presented to the public this year stories of their “lesser known” characters and who continued the legacy of already consecrated heroes. Movies like Batman, Black Adam and the sequels to Doctor Strange and Black Panther are examples of what was released.

1. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (February)

With a premiere scheduled for February 17, the third Ant-Man film will open Marvel’s Phase 5 in 2023. The feature will feature the return of characters Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer).

The plot will address the exploration of the Quantum Realm and the introduction of the new villain of the Marvel universe — Kang the Conqueror. Actor Jonathan Majors will play the antagonist.

2. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (May)

The third volume of Guardians of the Galaxy hits theaters on May 5. This will be the last film in the franchise with the original team, assembled since the beginning of the trilogy in 2014. James Gunn returns to direct the feature after his resignation in 2018.

Guardians of the Galaxy will see the return of Star-Lord/Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Nebula (Karen Gillan), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Groot ( Vin Diesel) and Kraglin (Sean Gunn).

3. The Marvels – Captain Marvel 2 (July)

Actress Brie Larson returns to her role as Carol Danvers in the sequel to Captain Marvel (2019). In addition to the protagonist, the film will have the addition of the characters Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani).

The Marvels will be released on July 28 and will be directed by Nia DaCosta, who also helmed The Legend of Candyman (2021).

6. Secret Invasion (2023)

Samuel L. Jackson returns to play Nick Fury in the story based on the comic book of the same name. The series has not yet received a release date, however, it is speculated that it will arrive on Disney + between March and June.

The plot will follow the invasion of Earth by the Skrulls, an alien race with metamorphic powers (changing shape). The first appearance of the Skrulls in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was in 2019, in the Captain Marvel movie.

1. Shazam! Fury of the Gods (March)

The second Shazam film is a sequel to the 2019 feature. Zachary Levi returns to the role of the hero, while Asher Angel plays Billy Batson – a teenage version of the protagonist.

Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu are also in the cast, they will give life to villains Hespera and Kalypso, respectively. Directed by David F. Sandberg.

2. The Flash (June)

After problems with the actor Ezra Miller and the change of directors, The Flash finally has a date to debut in theaters: June 16th. The feature is an adaptation of the famous comic book Flashpoint (2011), in which Barry Allen goes back in time to save his mother, murdered by the Reverse Flash.

3. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (December)

Sequel to the long released in 2018, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom arrives in theaters on December 25th. Jason Momoa returns as Arthur Curry, in addition to the characters Mera (Amber Heard), Orm (Patrick Wilson), Atlanna (Nicole Kidman) and Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II). James Wan will direct.
