Olivia Wilde will direct a female-centric Marvel film for Sony Pictures. Sony has been developing its own Spider-Verse using Spider-Man and related characters.
According to Deadline, Wilde has signed on to direct a female-led Marvel film project at Sony. Filmmaker Olivia Wilde is directing a female-centric Marvel film for the studio. For her new superhero film with Sony, Wilde will meet with Booksmart co-writer Katie Silberman as Silberman will write the script. Amy Pascal is also on board to produce with Rachel O’Connor serving as executive producer.
The film with Katie Silberman, Amy Pascal, and Rachel O’Connor as producers. The title of Spider-Woman has been held by many Marvel Comics characters, including Mary Jane Watson, Gwen Stacy, Jessica Drew, among others. The second Marvel film directed by Sony women, directed and co-written by Olivia Wilde, has no release date yet.
Olivia Wilde went from actress to lead director with Booksmart. Directing project Don’t Worry Darling plans to start production this fall and stars Florence Pugh, Chris Pine, Shia LaBeouf, and Dakota Johnson.
