Star Wars actor David Prowse, who played the physical form of Darth Vader in the original trilogy, sadly passed away at age 85. According to reports from BBC News (UK), actor Dave Prowse passed away aged 85 following a short illness.

David Prowse Born on July 1, 1935, in Bristol, England, Prowse was misdiagnosed with tuberculosis of the knee and was forced to wear a leg splint for four years as a young man. He competes for the Mr. Universe bodybuilding title in 1960 before winning the British Weightlifting Championship three years in a row, from 1962 to 1964.

Prowse’s early forays into acting included concerts at The Beverly Hillbillies, The Saint, and Doctor Who, and he later played “The Mighty Tonka” in a toy commercial directed by Ridley Scott. He made his film debut in a 1967 James Bond Casino Royale parody, and his sheer stature gave him the opportunity to play Frankenstein on numerous occasions.

Mark Hamill, who played Prowse’s on-screen son Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars films, paid a rich tribute to the late actor on Twitter. “So sad to hear David Prowse has passed. He was a kind man & much more than Darth Vader. Actor-Husband-Father-Member of the Order of the British Empire-3 time British Weightlifting Champion & Safety Icon the Green Cross Code Man. He loved his fans as much as they loved him. #RIP (sic)” Hamill wrote.

Daniel Logan, who played Boba Fett in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, tweeted: “Sad to hear of the passing of a #StarWars family member. RIP Dave Prowse. Darth Vader wouldn’t be the same without you in the costume. We had many fun times & laughs at cons together over the years. Glad to have been able to call you a friend. Rest now and be one with the Force!

Our condolences to the family of the lost soul and may the departed soul rest in peace.
