Spider-Man 3 will see Tom Holland return to the helm alongside director Jon Watts, who directed “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and “Spider-Man: Far From Home.” Now, doubling the excitement, the third installment is set to witness the return of a feared villain, Alfred Molina, also known as Doctor Octopus.
Alfred appeared as Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man 2, which was released in 2004. Tobey Maguire played the title role. The Hollywood Reporter report says Alfred Molina will return to the Spider-Man universe for the first time since 2004 to reprise his role as Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2. Once again, he will play Doctor Otto Octavius, the scientist who experimented on himself and became known. as the supervillain Doctor Octopus.
Alfred Molina’s Otto Octavius was mentally bonded with his robotic arms in Spider-Man 2 during a public demonstration with his fusion reactor that killed his wife, Rosie. With the inhibitor chip protecting him from the fried arms AI, Otto became unstable and, as Doctor Octopus, stole money to rebuild his reactor, colliding with Spider-Man in the process. In the end, however, Otto was able to exercise control over the arms.
Spider-Man 3 is scheduled to be released on December 17, 2021, in theaters around the world.
