The story of Matilda, a little girl with magical powers, became a children’s classic that conquered the public in the 1990s. Since then, actress Mara Wilson has never been seen in cinematographic productions again. She knows now how she is currently.
Wilson’s last film appearance was in the year 2000, in the film Thomas and the Magic Railroad , in which she played the character of Lily.
But before that, she was also in other films like The Almost Perfect Babysitter (1993), Miracle on 34th Street (1994), Magic Magic (1997) and Balloon Farm (1999).
But why did Mara Wilson drop out of acting?
In the early 2000s, Mara Wilson preferred to dedicate herself to her studies and live a normal adolescence, away from the spotlight and Hollywood. Therefore, she enrolled at New York University, which is one of the most prestigious in the United States, and currently works as a writer and voice actor.
She has published a book entitled Where Am I Now? True Stories About Childhood and Accidental Fame (free translation) in which she comments on her past as an actress. She also wrote the script for the play Sheeple in 2013.
As a voice actress, she has already given life to some animated characters like Mayberry in Helluva Boss (2021). The actress has commented a few times about the deeper reasons that led her to give up her career in cinema.
